“Big Ride” Coming to Town

Gran Fondo Colnago Miami – which means “big ride” in Italian – is expected to attract significant attention this Sunday, Nov. 20, as more than 800 bicyclists embark on a Sunday ride through South Miami-Dade County.

The event starts in Coral Gables, passes through Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay, and continues to Homestead and Florida City, before returning to Miami City Hall. Cyclists are required to obey “rules of the road” (meaning, they must obey stop signs and traffic lights just as motor vehicle do). However, local residents should be on the look-out for large groups of recreational/amateur cyclists to ensure safe travels for all on area streets.

Gran Fondos are long distance, mass-participation cycling events – not races – that are immensely popular in Italy. This event is one of four such Gran Fondos this year in the U.S. Other cities are San Diego, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
