NOTICE OF GENERAL AND SPECIAL ELECTION

EARLY VOTING:
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, THROUGH SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 3
9:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M. EACH DAY
QUALIFYING PERIOD:
MONDAY, AUGUST 6, 2012 - NOON THROUGH NOON ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 17, 2012
There will be questions on the ballot for amendment to the Village's Charter. These questions have not been determined as of this time - please contact the Clerk's office for more information.
Any resident who is a qualified elector of Miami-Dade County and has resided continuously in the Village of Palmetto Bay for at least two years prior to the date of qualifying is eligible to be a candidate for office. In this election, candidates may qualify for Vice Mayor and Council Seat 2. Any candidate receiving a number of votes greater than 50% of the total number of ballots cast shall be duly elected to the Council and no run-offs shall be required. If required, a Run-off Election will be held on November 20, 2012.
Individuals who are seeking to run for office may complete the following forms and visit the Clerk's office prior to the qualifying period:
- Form DS-DE9 Appointment of Campaign Treasurer and Designation of Campaign Depository (must be filed with the Clerk prior to opening a campaign account)
- Statement of Candidate (must be received by the Clerk within 10 days after filing the Appointment of Campaign Treasurer form, above.)
During the qualifying period, the following must be completed and provided to the Clerk:
- The two forms listed above, if not previously providedl
- Qualifying fee of $100.00, payable to the Village of Palmetto Bay - via campaign account check.
- State Assessment Fee - equal to 1% of the annual salary of the elected position that the candidate is seeking (Vice Mayor and Council earn $1,000 monthly) - via campaign account check.

- Affidavit of Candidacy and Residency
- Loyalty Oath and Oath of Candidate
- Declaration of Ethical Campaign Practices
- Voter's Registration Card

The Village Clerk is the filing officer and all documents must be timely submitted to her. If the Clerk receives qualifying papers that do not include all items as required prior to the last day of qualifying, she shall make a reasonable effort to notify the candidate of the missing or incomplete items and shall inform the candidate that all required items must be received by the close of qualifying. A candidate’s name as it is to appear on the ballot may not be changed after the end of qualifying.
