Experience Downtown on Independence Day

Thousands Enjoy Palmetto Bay's First-Ever Fourth

PALMETTO BAY, FL, JULY 4, 2014 -- View this video feature (coming soon) capturing Village residents, friends, and neighbors gathering at the Palmetto Bay Municipal Center to experience Independence Day in Downtown Palmetto Bay. Thousands joined us for food, music, family fun, and a giant fireworks display. The Village's first-ever Fourth of July event took place along Franjo Road in the emerging "Downtown District," home of the Palmetto Bay Municipal Center.

Special thanks to our sponsors: Corradino Group, Ludovici & Ludovici, Stantec, Under One Umbrella, Village of Pinecrest, and Waste Management. Please feel free to review what was included in our Sponsorship Package. Parking was provided by: Holy Rosary-St. Richard Catholic Church, Total Bank, and ERA South-Dade Realty, among other area property owners/managers. Thank you, all!

Event features included:

  • Food trucks & merchandise booths
  • Free American flags, fans, and pinwheels
  • Live music by "The Fire Brigade"
  • Free "Fun Zone" for kids with mechanical rides & bounce house
  • Beer-garden for adults
  • Hot dog eating contest
  • Street performers (stilt-walkers, jugglers, unicycle)
  • Face painting
  • "Around the World" Zumba Experience
  • Lounge areas
  • Giant fireworks display

The prime viewing area was along Franjo Road and in the "Field of Dreams" beside Miami Children's Hospital (special thanks to you, too, MCH!). Fireworks launched from the Palmetto Bay Park softball complex. According to Director-Parks & Recreation Fanny Carmona, between 7,000 and 8,000 spectators attended the event. "We encouraged residents to arrive early, get a good parking spot, and participate in a full evening of games, hot-dog eating contest, live music, and food and beverage booths. And apparently many residents headed our advise -- those who arrived first successfully staked out prime viewing areas where they set up their blanket-and-beach-chairs camps to enjoy the entire evening with us."
