Residents are asked to set out cans up to 30 gallons and tied plastic bags no later than 7 a.m. on your collection day. Garbage includes materials such as food scraps and household materials that are unsuitable for recycling. Please make sure to dispose of syringes, lancets and other sharp medical utensils in rigid, puncture-resistant containers, like a soda bottle. Replace the cap tightly before placing it in your garbage receptacle. Additionally, broken glass, tools and other sharp items should be wrapped in old newspaper or paper bags and the item should be labeled “CAUTION.”
You can purchase an additional 96-gallon waste cart or request a new cart from Miami-Dade County if it has been damaged during the collection process or stolen. Please review information regarding fees for additional carts, and links to information regarding how to replace your waste cart if it is damaged in the collection process or as a result of neglect, abuse, or modification. Stolen carts are to be reported by calling the Police non-emergency number at 305-476-5423. The County will provide a free cart if you provide a police case number. For additional information about automated garbage collection service, the County offers information via a helpful FAQ section on this subject.
Trash includes yard clippings and other small items weighing less than 50 pounds. Trash items must be canned, bagged or bundled in lengths of up to 4 feet using twine, rope or duct tape. You can place an unlimited number of bags or cans at the curbside for collection, but each item cannot exceed the 50 pound limit. Trash items are collected twice weekly with your garbage.
Bulky waste collection service is available to all residents of Palmetto Bay free of charge twice per year. Bulky waste collections cannot be rolled over to the following fiscal year. Each bulky waste pile must be measure 25 cubic yards or less. However, residents have the option of combining the two free annual pick-up for a maximum total of 50 cubic yards. After using the two free annual pickups, residents can dispose of their trash at one of the county’s Trash and Recycling Centers.
Bulky Waste Items Include:
- "White" goods (appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, water heaters, washing machines, dryers)
- Tree clippings (must be no more than 5' in length)
- Construction materials (limited to 1 cubic yard or less)
Garbage (food and kitchen waste), tires, free liquids, oil based paint or chemicals are not acceptable for bulky waste pickup. Click on the link to schedule a bulky waste pick-up online or contact the Department of Solid Waste at 311 or 305-594-1500.
Miami-Dade County provides recycling collection to single-family homes, duplexes, tri-plexes, and some cluster homes. The curbside recycling program uses convenient "single-stream" recycling, which means that you'll no longer have to separate your recyclable materials. Every household receives one 65-gallon wheeled cart where you can place all of your recyclable materials together for every-other-week recycling.
The biggest advantages of our single-stream program are that you no longer have to separate your recyclables and you can now recycle more types of paper products. Recycling has never been easier! Visit the County website for information on how to obtain replacement bins, etc.
As part of its recycling program, Miami-Dade County is also accepting used electronic equipment. Residents must drop off the equipment at one of the Permanent Home Chemical Collection Centers with two locations in South and West Dade as follows:
- South Dade at 23707 SW 97th Ave., Gate-B
- West Dade at 8831 NW 58th St.
The centers are open every Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can also drop off used electronics at any one of the County’s located in North Dade, Palm Springs North, Golden Glades, West Little River, West Perrine, and Moody Drive.
Eligible equipment includes:
- Computer monitors and televisions
- Personal computers, keyboards, hard drives and printers
