Repetitive Flood Claims -- Grant Workshops

Miami-Dade County and the Florida Division of Emergency Management are partnering to help property owners in the County with FEMA’s Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA), Repetitive Flood Claims (RFC), and Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) Programs. More than 3,000 homeowners throughout Miami-Dade County have filed repetitive flood claims and may be eligible for federal funding to prevent future losses. (See Workshop times/locations below.)

Mitigation prevents needless suffering, increases the attractiveness of the communities where the structures are located and can result in lower flood insurance payments for property owners through the Community Rating System.

Because the grant funding comes from the National Flood Insurance Fund (NFIP), all property owners applying for these grants must have a current NFIP policy in effect when the application is submitted.  These programs make grant funding available for a variety of flood mitigation activities:

  • Structure Elevation (at least two feet above the Base Flood Elevation)
  • Property Acquisition and Structure Demolition
  • Property Acquisition and Structure Relocation
  • Dry Flood proofing of commercial and historic residential structures
  • Minor Localized Flood Reduction Projects

Impacted property owners are encouraged to attend one of the following workshops:

Town of Cutler Bay Council Chambers
10720 Caribbean Boulevard
Cutler Bay, FL 33189

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 6-8 pm
