Safety Inspections ... Ensure your child-safety seat is in proper working order by making an appointment with the Palmetto Bay Policing Unit. Outreach Officers Patience Glasko (305-278-4016) and Peter Judge (305-278-4018) are now certified to conduct passenger-seat inspections and check ups every Wednesday at Village Hall. Police Outreach Video ,,, Outreach Officers with the Village of Palmetto Bay Policing Unit stepped into the camera's eye recently to tell us all about the various programs geared toward strengthening ties between residents in the community and our Public Safety division. Crime Watch ... Join a neighborhood Crime Watch group. Contact Officer Pete Judge or call 305-278-4018 (M-F, 9-5). The program organizes neighborhoods of single-family homes, apartment complexes, and gated communities. You'll learn about crime prevention, homeland security, and natural disaster preparedness. You also establish good working relationships with the local police and fellow neighbors. MAR 28, 2012

 

Fingerprinting ... Police provide Fingerprinting for Kids, a unique program that would provide a valuable tool to aid authorities in locating missing children. See this August 2009 Fingerprinting event.

Suspicious Activities ... Please report suspicious activities by calling 911 in the event of an emergency or the non-emergency police number 4-Police (305-476-5423).

Youth Crime Watch ... Samantha Garcia of Coral Reef Elementary School was named Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County “Student of the Week” for March 5-9. 2012. rad/KIDS Training ... About 30 Howard Drive Elementary School students graduated from the acclaimed radKIDS self-empowerment/self-defense class on Dec. 9, presented by Community Outreach Officers Pete Judge Oscar Roque Dec. 5-9. See photos from a previous class held there. DEC 12, 2011

Police "Took the Money" ... In an ABC-TV show that aired Aug 16, 2012, two Palmetto Bay officers retrieved $100,000 in cash: Sgt. Manny Munoz and Sgt. Jorge Luis Montero had only 48 hours to search for a hidden briefcase containing the loot using clues left by the opposing team. Good police work, guys... Congratulations. AUG 17, 2011

In response to resident requests for fast access to timely information, the Palmetto Bay Policing Unit provides a weekly "Crime & Incident Report," issued every Monday at about noon (or Tuesdays following a Monday Federal holiday) . The report summarizes the previous week's activity. A link to the most current is available on the homepage of the Village website.

About the Policing Unit

The Palmetto Bay Policing Unit was conceived through an interlocal agreement between the Village of Palmetto Bay and Miami-Dade County. The Department officially began its operations with the Village on July 14, 2003. Charged with the primary responsibility to protect, the Department is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well being of the Palmetto Bay community, emphasizing community-oriented policing and traffic safety. The Department is responsible for maintaining order and providing for the safe and expeditious flow of residents and visitors upholding the values of integrity, respect, service, and fairness. The daily operations and administration of the Department are overseen by the Village Commander with the assistance of a Police Lieutenant.

Village Commander

The Village Commander serves as the "Chief" of our Police Department, supervising the Village's sworn officers and civilian employees dedicated to serving the citizens of Palmetto Bay.

Department Goals

The goals of the Police Department are as follows:

  • To create a safer Community through the interaction of the Policing Unit with special enforcement activities
  • To further enhance the rapport between the Policing Unit and the citizens of Palmetto Bay.
  • Reduce the chances of a resident falling victim to burglars
