Project Updates (as available)

  • Project Update 2 (September 30, 2021)

According to the county, the design of the 136th Street Bridge Replacement project has been completed for a few months. However, the project is on hold awaiting the relocation of electrical lines by FPL and pending a permit from the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The FPL line relocation requires a regulatory permit and this has had a significant impact on the construction schedule.

The shared-use path project is on-going, but the final roadway resurfacing may need to be postponed due to the bridge project delays. The county expects the bridge project to be back on track in the next few months.

  • Project Update 1 (June 16, 2021)

County crews have identified the trees that will be removed and replaced for the project. This project was designed and engineered to minimize the impact to existing trees and vegetation. The county has tagged the trees that will be removed with an orange ribbon and those that will be relocated with a blue ribbon. It is important to underscore that the existing tree canopy will be fully replenished with new, native Florida trees.

Bridge Replacement Project Fact Sheet (provided by Miami-Dade County)

Project Description

The proposed project consists of replacing the bridge currently spanning over the C-100A canal along SW 136 Street, within Miami-Dade County Commision Districts 7 and 8, the Village of Pinecrest and the Village of Palmetto Bay.  The existing bridge, originally built in 1966 and classified as functionally obsolete, will be replaced with a new concrete bridge that provides wider concrete sidewalks and shoulders on both sides greatly enhancing pedestrian and bicycle features.  the project also includes improving the approach roadways by milling and resurfacing, shoulder widening, new pavement markings, and shoreline protection adjacent to the new bridge.  Funding for this project will be provided by Road Impact Fee District 5, pursuant to Section 33E of the Code of Miami-Dade County

Methodology & Efforts

All efforts will be made to minimize the impact from the construction activities to area residents, schools, businesses, and motorists.  The area will be restored to its original condition immediately upon completion of construction activities.  The restoration activities will address any areas impacted by the project, such as grassy areas, sidewalks and other items affected by the construction.
