The Palmetto Bay Village Council appointed five individuals to serve on the Charter Revision Commission on September 9, 2019, through the adoption of Resolution No. 2019-113. This important Commission is tasked with the responsibility of reviewing the Village Charter and offering amendments or revisions in order for the Council to consider submitting the Charter Amendments to the electors of the Village at the November 2020 General Election (Charter, Section 6.2). The last Charter Revision Commission was formed in 2015 to provide recommendations for the November 2016 elections.
The Commission is currently in the process of meeting to develop its recommendations for Charter Amendments to the Village Council. Once this task has been completed, the Commission will be sunset and a new committee will be established to review the Village Charter once again for new amendments to be considered in in 2024.For more information about the Charter Revision Commission, please contact the Office of the Village Clerk.
Members of the Commission are appointed by each member of the Village Council. In addition, Mayor Cunningham appoints a non-voting Commission member who is also a Councilmember. The non-voting Council appointee is Councilman Patrick Fiore. This Commission is bound by the State of Florida Sunshine Laws.
