Vice Mayor Leanne Tellam

Biography


Vice Mayor Tellam has been a longtime advocate for our community, and in 2020, she ran for office and, in 2020, was elected to serve on our Village Council in her current leadership role. Vice Mayor Tellam graduated cum laude from Florida State University with a degree in Multinational Business and a minor in Spanish. She then moved back to Miami to attend Law School at the University of Miami. She has served as a Florida Supreme Court Certified Mediator and is currenting practicing law and defending small businesses throughout South Florida. 

More than 25 years ago, she and her late husband Doug purchased their first home right here in Palmetto Bay, which is where she currently lives and where she where she continues to raise their three children. Community service has always been a top priority for her. She has taken leadership roles in many organizations including, The Junior League of Miami, Coral Reef Elementary and Palmetto Bay Senior High Schools PTAs, the Girl Scouts, Tropical Council of South Florida, Boy Scout Troop & Cub Scout Pack 711 and The Florida Bar Education Committee, just to name a few. 

Vice Mayor Tellam has also dedicated her time to serve many nonprofit organizations, which includes INN Transition South, a 54 unit garden apartment complex for survivors of domestic abuse and homelessness in southern Miami-Dade County, and The Everglades Foundation where she helped the Palmetto Bay-based nonprofit launch a $10 million competition to foster scientific solutions to the green algae crisis. As Vice Mayor, she is passionate about honoring the great women who came before her and mentoring and encouraging the rising stars that are coming along now especially here in Palmetto Bay.
