Purpose:
To bring awareness about the history and heritage of the Village of Palmetto Bay through Village events in celebration of the Village's 20th anniversary. The Village was inaugurated in 2002, and as we celebrate the Village’s 20th anniversary, we continue to reminisce on the process that brought us to where we are today; a vibrant residential community. The Heritage Committee was established by Ordinance 2021-11, which was adopted on July 12, 2021.
Mission
To explore the heritage and history of the Village and advise on how to best incorporate this history and heritage into Village events. The Heritage Committee shall report its’ final recommendations to the Village Council no later than July 2022, on how the Village should incorporate the history and heritage of the Village into the Village’s twentieth (20th) year anniversary.
Composition
The Heritage Committee shall consist of five (5) Village members, one appointed by each member of the Village Council. Members may be: (a) a resident of the Village; or (b) be employed within the Village; or (c) own a property or business located in the Village.
The Chairperson and Secretary of the Heritage Committee shall be elected by the Committee Members. Committee Members cannot be current members of any Advisory Board, Committee, or Task Force in the Village. The Committee shall cease to exist immediately following their post celebration assessment meeting following the anniversary celebration to make observations and assess outcomes for the permanence of the event.
Meetings
The Heritage Committee meets the third Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm. See the calendar link on the left side menu for upcoming meetings and events.
Pursuant to the Village of Palmetto Bay’s Declaration of COVID-19 Virus State of Emergency Order No. 2020-11, all Village Advisory Boards, Committees, Task Forces, Charter Officers, and staff shall continue to meet virtually. All virtual meetings shall comply with the Florida Constitution, Florida’s Government in the Sunshine Law, and Chapter 286, Florida Statutes. All dates and times are subject to change and may be cancelled due to a lack of a quorum. If a Special Council Meeting is called by the Village Council which conflicts with a meeting date/time established herein, the meeting of the board, committee, or task force shall be cancelled and rescheduled for another date and time, which shall be voted upon by a majority of the members and shall not be in conflict with other scheduled meetings of the Village.
STARTING JUNE 1, 2022, ALL BOARDS, COMMITTEES AND TASK FORCE GROUPS WILL MEET IN PERSON AT VILLAGE HALLPalmetto Bay's Declaration of COVID-19 Virus State of Emergency Order No. 2020-11 has been lifted. As such, all advisory boards, committees and task force groups will resume in person meetings starting June 1, 2022. All meetings will be audio-recorded, and written minutes will be maintained by the Office of the Village Clerk.Members of the general public may provide public comments by continuing to use the online Public Comment Form, which will be read into the record, or may appear in person to provide public comments. The meeting dates will remain the same as previously established for all volunteer groups. |
