Sleep Safely Program

Free bed rails for our senior residents...better safe than sorry!

About the Program

The Village of Palmetto Bay Mayor and Council approved the "Sleep Safely" program that provides bed rails for senior citizens to prevent unintended falls during sleep.  The bed rails are available FREE of charge for Palmetto Bay residents.

The safety program was developed under the leadership of Councilmember Marsha Matson after she suffered a neck and back injury when she fell off her bed as she slept.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, one in four seniors will fall at least one time per year with one in five falls resulting in serious injury like head trauma or broken bones, with falls being the leading cause of injury-related deaths.  Councilwoman Matson sponsored a resolution allocating $7,000 for the program to help prevent Village seniors from suffering falling injuries with a secure bed rail.
