New Traffic Circle
IMPORTANT MESSAGE: We have received reports that the temporary signs placed at the site to alert drivers of the detour locations are being moved. We are asking everyone to please refrain from moving ANY of these signs. Doing so will confuse drivers and may end up causing a collision. If you witness someone moving a sign, please report it immediately to the Police Non-Emergency Number at 305-4POLICE (305-476-5423.)
We truly appreciate your patience during this time and apologize for the inconvenience. Please know that we are doing all we can to expedite the project and cause the least amount of disruption to our residents.
Following the approval of the required county permits, Palmetto Bay, in partnership with Miami-Dade County, started the construction of the traffic circle at the intersection of SW 82nd Avenue and SW 168th Street/ Richmond Drive. Construction activities started on August 8th and the new circle is expected to be fully operational before the 2017-2018 school year begins.

|Friday, August 25th||Traffic Circle at the Intersection of SW 168/82: Effective as of August 21, 2017, the traffic circle was opened to vehicular traffic during peak hour (Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:45 – 9:00 AM and 4:00 – 6:00 PM. Please use caution when driving the circle as paving of the roadway is not complete at this time. During the week of August 22 through August 26, 2017 the contractor completed all underground drainage improvements. Most of the concrete work has been completed with the exception of bike ramps, and curb and gutter required for connection to the new drainage infrastructure. This weekend contractor will be complete pending concrete work and shot directional bore for future connectivity to electricity and water weather permitting.
Next week, August 27 through September 2, 2017 the contractor will be milling, adjusting manholes and drain lids for proper elevation before commencing paving of the intersection. There will be no accessibility to vehicular and pedestrian traffic starting Wednesday, August 30, 2017 when the milling and paving work construction efforts commence. Please keep in mind that contractor will continue to work in inclement weather conditions when possible to get the traffic circle open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic by Saturday, September 2, 2017. Restoration work will be performed during the week of September 4, 2017 to include sodding and driveway work. Signs have been placed to indicate detours.
|Tuesday, August 15th||Poured concrete for installation of sidewalks on both NE and SE corners and on both west and south center islands;
Commenced digging in preparation of the West and South center islands;
Pouring of concrete anticipated to start tomorrow on both west and south center islands and start prepping the SW and NW ends for sidewalk installations
|Friday, Aug. 11th||Start of concrete work for the northern outer intersection curbs
Asphalt & grass removal and preparation of south side for subsequent concrete pouring
|Wednesday, Aug. 8th||Removal of the traffic signal box
Removal of underground wiring
Additionally, in an effort to expedite the completion of the project, the contractor will be working extended hours as detailed below. Please note that temporary stop signs have been placed at the corner of SW 82nd Avenue and SW 165th Terrace as a safety measure during construction.
Detour signs have also been placed throughout as illustrated on the "Detour Map" shown below.
- Removal of traffic signals
- Construction of a traffic circle to include drainage
- Paving and Striping the road
- Incorporation of bike lanes
- Upgrading pedestrian ramps to current standards
- Installing signage and pavement markings
- Installation of Pedestrian Crosswalks with refuge island

We ask our commuters to pay close attention to travel lane closures and detours and to exercise caution when workers are present and heavy equipment is being used. Please obey all posted signs and speed limits and allow extra time to reach your destination.
