COUNTYWIDE STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED
Earlier today, a State of Emergency was officially declared by Miami-Dade County Mayor, Carlos Gimenez due to Eta. According to the National Hurricane Center, South Florida may experience extended periods of heavy rainfall and gusty winds resulting from the storm. Up to 10 inches of rain are expected through Monday.
As weather conditions continue to deteriorate, local officials have announced the closure of certain services to ensure the safety of all. Please also remember that the county curfew remains in effect.
VILLAGE CLOSURES
- All Village parks are currently closed and will remain closed through Monday, November 9th. A decision will be made on Monday about a possible reopening on Tuesday, November 10th.
- Village Hall is closed on Monday, November 9th
- Freebee will be suspended on Monday, November 9th
Village officials will assess conditions tomorrow and make a determination as to the reopening of parks and other Village services. Any new announcements will be posted on our website and on social media platforms.
SCHOOL CLOSURES
- All Miami-Dade County Public Schools are closed Monday, November 9th due to the expected unfavorable weather conditions associated with TS Eta, including both in-person and My School Online. Tomorrow afternoon, the School District will determine whether to resume operations on Tuesday.
COUNTY CLOSURES
- Miami-Dade County has suspended bulky waste scheduling until further notice and no new bulky waste pickups will be scheduled until further notice.
- County Trash and Recycling Centers will remain open today until 5:30 pm, as weather conditions permit.
- County transit services cease today as of 2 pm. Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover, and Special Transportation Service (STS) operations will stop at least 3 hours before tropical storm force winds are expected to reach 39 MPH, locally. Parking garages will also close at that point.
- All County parks, beaches, marinas, golf courses, Zoo Miami, and the Deering Estate are closed and will remain closed through Monday, November 9, 2020.
EVACUATION CENTERS
There is a voluntary evacuation for residents living in mobile homes and low-lying areas, or for those who need refuge. Two evacuation centers are open for residents living in mobile homes and low-lying areas, or for those who need refuge:
