The Village of Palmetto Bay has contacted Miami Dade County to seek traffic calming at the intersection of 174th Street and 84th Avenue.  As documented by the memo sent by Palmetto Bay Public Services Director Dio Torres to Miami Dade County,  it is extremely difficult for cars on 174th St to cross 84th Ave., or to merge into traffic during peak hours.  The county has agreed to conduct an analysis on the area.

Re: Traffic Concerns at SW 174 Street and SW 87 Avenue

We would like to share our concern over the intersection of SW 174 Street and SW 87^TH Avenue with Miami Dade County.  The intersection has substantial traffic during peak hours, at times making it difficult for traffic from the SW 174 Street to find large enough gaps where they can either traverse the intersection or incorporate themselves into the traffic stream of SW 87^TH Avenue, creating lengthy queues and  potentially accidents.  We kindly request to know if this intersection has been studied in the past for warrants by the County (i.e. 4 way stop, roundabout, traffic signal, or other recommended improvement).  If this intersection has not been evaluated recently, would it be possible to have the County evaluate this intersection for warrants of some traffic calming measure, traffic control device, or traffic signal?  If the County hasn’t/ can’t  perform the warrant analysis please let us know how we can proceed.
