Please be aware that a hoax email has been circulating to some people who have signed up for Palmetto Bay’s email list. The fake email may contain the subject line "Urgent Message from Boards, Committees & Task Forces" along with a graphic showing the Village of Palmetto Bay's logo and text that says:
This is a secure message.
To read your message.
Open the attachment.
This email was not sent by any staff member of Palmetto Bay and we strongly urge you not to respond to it or click on any of its attachments or links.
Please note the following red flags that indicate an email might be a scam or “phishing” email:
· The sender’s name or email address doesn’t match their actual contact information
· The email contains typos, spelling errors, or grammar mistakes
· The email offers something “too good to be true”
· The email mentions purchases or transactions you did not initiate
· The email contains unsolicited attachments
· The email contains unrealistic threats
· The email asks for personal information, money, or urgent action
· The subject and/or message of the email doesn’t seem to fit the sender’s job title (if impersonating a business or one of its employees)
If you receive an email that looks suspicious and want to verify the information, contact the sender through an email address or phone number that can be verified as official. If the email is indeed a scam, delete it and report it to the organization that supposedly sent it.
