Over the Winter Recess, Councilwoman Cunningham joined Judge Patti Marino-Pedraza, the Miami Palmetto Senior High Boys Baseball team, and many team parents for a day of volunteer community service. The MPSH Boys Baseball team spent the day at the Chapman Partnership which operates two Homeless Assistance Centers with 800 beds located in Miami and Homestead. The volunteers teamed up with about 30 of the facility’s young residents to play football, basketball and – of course – baseball. Chapman Partnership provides comprehensive support which includes emergency housing, meals, health-care, and jobtraining with placement. "It is very rewarding seeing these young men giving back to those less fortunate in our community," Cunningham said, adding that she was also joined by Orestes and Mary Mayo, local educators and Palmetto Bay residents who collected toys for donation to Chapman." Mr. Mayo is a teacher at Bio Tech and his wife, Mary is an administrator at South Dade Senior. Mr. Mayo also serves as the Palmetto Bay Education Advisory Council Chair.
