Councilwoman Cunningham joined with students from 14 different public and private elementary schools across Miami-Dade, including Palmetto, Coral Reef Elementary, and Howard Drive Elementary, for The Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention & Treatment’s 13th Annual Elementary School Student Conference on Cyber-Bullying Prevention. Nearly 160 students and their counselors came together to learn about cyber-bullying and how to prevent it. Students explored ways to promote relationships and prevent social-media bullying by designing posters, putting together anti-bullying cheers, and performing skits with their classmates and counselors. Councilwoman Cunningham serves as the Vice-President of The Melissa Institute. “These kinds of discussions are important to our children because it provides them with an opportunity to talk about the types of things that are happening in our schools and playgrounds -- and offers solid strategies to keep them from ever becoming victims of bullying," said Cunningham.
