In January 2022, the Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management launched a new Bulky Appointment System that allows residents to choose a specific date for their bulky waste pile to be collected. One of the new system's goals is to reduce the number of days that piles sit at the curb. Under the new rules, piles cannot be placed at the curb more than three days prior to the scheduled appointment date. During the first 15 months of the program (January 2022 to March 2023), the Department has provided a period of education and courtesy notifications to residents who place piles at the curb more than three days prior to their scheduled appointment date.
Effective April 1, 2023, enforcement activities associated with the bulky appointment system will begin. Residents who place their piles at the curb more than three days prior to their appointment date will be subject to enforcement action ranging from issuance of a warning notice up to and including a civil citation for non-compliance.
