Each year, Mayor Karyn Cunningham chooses a recipient for Environmentalist of the Year. The award recognizes a person, group, or business that has made an outstanding contribution to environmental efforts in the Village of Palmetto Bay. We're now proud to present the winners of this year's awards!
Craig Grossenbacher has been named the 2023 Mayor's Environmentalist of the Year. Craig has served the community for many years as a top-level environmental manager at the Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Resources (DERM), specializing in water, environmental, and coastal resources. He has worked hard to bring clean water to Biscayne Bay and has helped keep the Village green through his many efforts on the Tree Advisory Board.
The Mayor also named her first-ever Youth Environmentalist of the Year, with the award going to Luca Martinez. Luca is a nature and wildlife photographer and videographer who has been shooting regularly in the Everglades for the past three years. He has spoken to many local groups about his work and hopes to inspire others about the importance of preserving South Florida's ecosystem.
Congratulations to both Craig and Luca, who will be honored at a tree planting ceremony at Coral Reef Park on April 21 and also that evening prior to Earth Day Movie Night.
